Runner's Knee

     In this joint- Injury, pain develops behind the knee cap. This injury develops in some active athletes. It is the most common knee problem of runners. 


Sign and symptoms


  1. Swelling and aching pain around or under the knee cap on the inner side. 
  2. Sometimes "Give way" at the knee or the knee does not support body weight.
  3. Symptoms worsen after walking, running, squatting, climbing a hill or jumping up etc.

Precautions 

  1. Take rest.
  2. Do not kneel or climb stairs.
  3. Apply ice bag for 10 minutes 3-4 times a day for 3-4 days.
  4. After ice treatments apply heat frequently. Use heat lamp, heating pad, heat liniments or ointment.
  5. Consult s doctor.

Treatment

   If  the after effects of injury persist, follow medical treatment which may include X-ray of the knee to check any mis-aligment of tilting of the Patella.
 Sometimes surgery may become necessary as a last report.
