Wounds


   Types of Wounds 

                        A wounds is a cut in the skin which becomes an outlet for blood and gateway to diseases producing microbes. It may causes in Kitchen by Knife, glass piece or through a metal etc. Sometimes the housewife handling a sharp instrument carelessly is liable to get wounded.


  1. Incised Wounds :- An injury caused by a sharp instrument like a razor blade, wherein the blood vessels are cleanly cut and bleed freely is known as an incised wound.
  2. Lacerated Wounds :- The wound which has torn and triangular margins is called lacerated wound. These wounds may be caused by the toothed wheel or a machine or the clawing of an animal. The bleeding is either delayed or less but the wound is likely to get septic quickly.
  3. Punctured Wound :- The deep-seated wound caused by piercing of an instrument or stabbing  is called punctured wound. This injury may effect the internal organs of the patient.
  4. Confused Wounds :- The wounds caused by heavy weight crushing of limb or a direct blow by a blunt instrument. The tissue ligaments, muscle fibers and cartilage get torn and bones may also broken.

Treatment of Wounds 

       The treatment of wounds is depend on the general condition of the patient.  It is advisable to First Aider that he first of all lie down the patient, as he bleeds less in this position. Then the bleeding part should be raised above the level of the heart to arrest the free flow of blood, Unless there is a fracture.

  1. The wound should be properly exposed, after removal of soiled clothing and cleaned of dirt or any foreign matter.
  2. As a blood clot acts as a natural way for preventing further loss of blood, if one has formed, it should not be tempered with.
  3. Application of direct pressure over the wound with the thumb, or over a pad, may stop the bleeding. Pressure should be applied to the sides if a foreign body is embedded in the wound.
  4. An open wound is liable to be infected. Therefore, antiseptic can be applied cautiously over it.
  5. The wound should be dressed and padded and tightly bandaged in case of no bone is fractured inside it.
