The Effects of Exercises on Muscular System
Exercise tones your muscles and make you look better and it also helps your overall energy, strength, flexibility and balance.
Exercise increases muscle energy in many ways .
- It firstly increases the numbers of mitochondria within your muscles. These tiny structures with cells convert nutrition to energy.
- Exercise augments the amount of hemoglobin within your muscles. This protein transports and stores oxygen, which the mitochondria use in their energy production process.
- Exercise increases one's muscle capacity to store glycogen - a form of carbohydrate fuel.
- Changes in the shape and size of Muscle :- Due to regular and prolonged exercise, muscles grow of develop in size. This is mainly attributed to the increased size of the muscle fibers in the muscle. Cells of the muscles get enlarged which result in change the shape and size of the muscle.
- Reduces likelihood of injury :- Exercise strengthens muscles and the connective tissues around them. As a result, one less likely to suffer injuries such as torn ligaments, sprains, ruptured tendons and muscle tears.
- Improved muscle control :- Exercises helps in improving our muscle control and balance which means that one is less likely to fall and will perform better in sport activities. Any injuries one suffers are less likely to be severe.
- Increases the number of capillaries in the muscle :- Due to regular exercise the number of capillaries in the muscle increase, which in turn helps for better oxygen exchange. Muscles become more red due to increased capillaries.
- Stronger heart muscles :- During intensive or prolonged exercise, one's heart may pump to 5-6 times more blood than it pumps during normal daily activities and it may use up to 20 times more oxygen. Depending upon the intensity and prolonged exercise and the state of one's health, this increased demand on the heart muscle can strengthen or weaker the heart. Increased heart activity also cleans out the blood vessels surrounding the heart and hence improves the overall health of the heart muscle.
- Reduces fat and changes body composition :- Exercise helps to reduce fat. When the percentage of fat in the body reduces, the lean body mass increases. this also brings about change in the body composition.
- Improves posture and appearance :- Exercise helps in keeping the muscles well toned and even improves one's posture and appearance which further brings about self-respect and confidence in individuals.
